Sulfur: an important chemical element for the body
Sulfur (atomic number 16) is a chemical element. Its symbol is S (Latin for "sulfur"). It’s an odorless, tasteless, and very abundant non-metal. Its most common form is bright yellow crystalline. It presents itself in the form of sulphides and sulphates in many minerals. It can often be found pure in regions with active volcanoes. It is an essential element for all living beings. It’s in two amino acids, cysteine and methionine, and therefore in many proteins. Sulfur is the basis of many internal processes in the human body, in particular, cell regeneration: on average, an adult needs about 5 grams of sulfur a day.
