Devil's claw
Devil's Claw is the common name for Harpagophytum (Harpagophytum procumbens), a perennial plant native to southwest Africa, including the Kalahari Desert, Namibia and Madagascar. The name Devil's Claw comes from the appendages that characterize its fruits, which are equipped with sturdy hooks. These hooks can penetrate bodies and limbs of animals, causing serious wounds and forcing them to perform a “devilish” dance. In phytotherapy, the secondary roots - rich in natural compounds called harpagosides - are beneficial for joint function. Devil's claw is widely used in herbal medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties, especially as a natural remedy for joint problems and muscle pain.
