Psyllium
Psyllium (Plantago psyllium) is an annual herbaceous plant that belongs to the Plantaginaceae family. It grows mainly in Iran, India, Pakistan and in the United States. Its name comes from the Greek word "psylla" which means flea and refers to the fact that its seeds resemble fleas. Psyllium has wheat-like spikes and small brown seeds. The fibre that comes from the cuticle of Psyllium seeds helps intestinal transit regularity, soothes the digestive system, increases nutrient absorption, and helps to metabolize lipids and carbohydrates; additionally, it normalizes stool volume and consistency and has a probiotic effect.
