Theanine and its relaxing power
Theanine is an amino acid commonly found in tea (Camellia sinensis infusions). It’s related to glutamine, and has the ability to cross the encephalic barrier. It’s an amino acid derivative that comes from L-glutamic acid. Unlike its precursor, there are few dietary sources of Theanine: large quantities are found in tea leaves, especially green tea, and in some mushrooms. It is different from the theine, which is a synonym for caffeine. It is one of tea’s active ingredients and is linked to relaxation.
